چکیده

We study water flow computation on imprecise terrains. We consider two approaches to modeling flow on a terrain: one where water flows across the surface of a polyhedral terrain in the direction of steepest descent, and one where water only flows along the edges of a predefined graph, for example a grid or a triangulation. In both cases each vertex has an imprecise elevation, given by an interval of possible values, while its (x, y)coordinates are fixed. For the first model, we show that the problem of deciding whether one vertex may be contained in the watershed of another is NP-hard. In contrast, for the second model we give a simple O(n log n) time algorithm to compute the minimal and the maximal watershed of a vertex, or a set of vertices, where n is the number of edges of the graph. On a grid model, we can compute the same in O(n) time. Rose knew almost everything that water can do, there are an awful lot when you think what. Gertrude Stein, The World is Round.

Smoothing imprecise 1-dimensional terrains

An imprecise 1-dimensional terrain is an x-monotone polyline where the y-coordinate of each vertex is not fixed but only constrained to a given interval. In this paper we study four different optimization measures for imprecise 1-dimensional terrains, related to obtaining smooth terrains. In particular, we present algorithms to minimize the largest and total turning angle, and to maximize the s...

Smoothing Imprecise 1.5D Terrains

We study optimization problems for polyhedral terrains in the presence of data imprecision. An imprecise terrain is given by a triangulated point set where the height component of the vertices is specified by an interval of possible values. We restrict ourselves to terrains with a one-dimensional projection, usually referred to as 1.5-dimensional terrains, where an imprecise terrain is given by...

APPLICATION OF DEA FOR SELECTING MOST EFFICIENT INFORMATION SYSTEM PROJECT WITH IMPRECISE DATA

The selection of best Information System (IS) project from many competing proposals is a critical business activity which is very helpful to all organizations. While previous IS project selection methods are useful but have restricted application because they handle only cases with precise data. Indeed, these methods are based on precise data with less emphasis on imprecise data. This paper pro...
